I Am Williams was a photographic exhibition that grew out of the college’s Diversity Initiatives of 2004. The project centered on giving voice to individual identities that, together, form the Williams community. Some 400 students, faculty, staff and alumni participated, lending their voices to the project by writing short statements of identity to accompany their photographs. Initially, printed posters of participants were hung in physical spaces. The project then evolved to include a website.

As noted in the project’s original statement of purpose: I Am Williams is all about giving voice to individual identities and affirming that the college exists for all of us—that we can, every one of us, claim Williams.
